Core, Manticore Games’ free user-generated content platform for games, has made its debut on the Epic Games Store and launched early access.

Described as an “endless arcade of high-quality, user-built games and worlds,” Core is a gaming platform that has been in Alpha for the past year. It already hosts over 20,000 playable games across all genres, with 200 new or updated games added daily. Core doubles as a free game creation platform, making it possible for anyone to create and publish multiplayer game experiences.

“Core’s games showcase what’s possible when the power of creation is made accessible to anyone,” said Jordan Maynard, Manticore Games co-founder and chief creative officer. “We built Core to open gaming to a new wave of creators from all backgrounds. That new generation is already publishing amazing experiences that rival those of big studios or that big studios wouldn’t even think of making.”

Core celebrated its Epic launch with a showcase hosted by The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley, highlighting the platform’s top games and creators thus far.

Some of the most unique games on Core include Tumbleweed Typo Hunter, a text-designed western shooter, Sire Pepe and the Goblins, a side-scroller, Mage’s Gambit, a deck builder and Nexus Wars, a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) shooter. User’s can also find survival games, multiplayer shooters, RPGs, farming simulators, obstacle course games and more.

Content creators Benjy David “benjyfishy” Fish, Jonathan “H2O Delirious” Denis, “JustaMinx”, Stephanie “FemSteph” Driscoll, Greg Miller and Austin Creed also joined the showcase to share what they loved about the platform.

For a limited time, players who create a Core account or link their existing account to the Epic Games Store can claim exclusive heroes and mounts from Manticore Games.

After less than a year in Alpha, Core boasts over one million creators and players, introducing a level of disruption to game creation and play similar to how YouTube revolutionized video. It combines Epic’s Unreal Engine with accessible tools that require no coding experience, making game creation, publishing and play available to everyone for free. Core also offers a creator-friendly economy with a 50 percent revenue share, allowing creators to make money and build businesses on Core.

Now that the platform is in early access, Manticore is preparing to add more features for players such as virtual events and persistent player housing, as well as new features for creators including physics-based vehicle systems and an assets marketplace.

Core is free to download on the Epic Games Store, exclusively for PC.
