DRL SIM Video Game

Drone Racing League (DRL) has launched DRL SIM, the ultimate first-person view (FPV) drone flight simulator game, on PlayStation consoles.

The DRL SIM, already available on Xbox and Steam, is the fastest, easiest and most cost-effective way for aspiring drone pilots to get the skills they need to succeed. It boasts accurate physics, aerodynamics and drone data, giving the game a hyper-realistic replica of drone racing in real life.

“FPV pilots need real drone skills to fly, and the best way to get them is on the DRL SIM on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam,” said Anne Marie Giantusos, DRL CMO. “In honor of our console expansion, which further broadens the accessibility of our sport to players around the world, we’re celebrating the incredible abilities of drone pilots. We invite anyone who flies to join in the #DroneSkills challenge by sharing their masterful skills and we encourage prospective pilots to learn how to fly with our SIM.”

DRL SIM launched on Steam November 2016 and on Xbox consoles September 2020. In 2020, DRL SIM downloads saw a 100 percent year-over-year increase on both Xbox and Steam. Additionally, use of the hashtag #DroneSkills increased 200 percent over the past six months.

The game helps prepare aspiring pilots with drone skills needed to fly, and build and race FPV drones safely without crashing their drone, which in real life can be costly to repair or replace. DRL SIM offers 54 training missions designed to teach players navigation techniques including how to hover, pitch and yaw racing drones and give real-time feedback for improvements. The Workbench feature allows players to build their own customized drone, which features real components that power up to 120 million different combinations.

DRL SIM also offers freestyle flight or multiplayer competitions. Races take place in the same locations that pro DRL pilots fly in the Allianz World Championship seasons, including stadiums, palaces and amusement parks.

DRL SIM is the official virtual drone racing platform for DRL SIM racing events, hosts esports tournaments to recruit new pilots into the league and offers educational programming for the league’s DRL Academy STEM program.
