ALIENWARE TERMINATES PARTNERSHIP WITH ‘LEAGUE OF LEGENDS’, RIOT GAMES
Alienware, through its parent company Dell, has terminated its partnership with League of Legends’ developer Riot Games, VENN has confirmed.
Dot Esports first reported the news, citing sexual harassment allegations surrounding Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent as one of the reasons behind the decision. Riot responded to that report, calling Alienware “a valuable partner to Riot since January 2019,” but refrained from commenting further on the matter, citing “confidentiality obligations.”
Riot did state, however, that changes will be made to upcoming livestreams with Alienware, saying, “As we continue discussions with them, we have removed their branding from our broadcasts.”
Frank Cestone, global PR manager at Dell, confirmed the news to VENN, saying, “It’s true that Dell is no longer a Riot Games sponsor.” Specific details as to why the deal was called off were not given, as the rep was “unable to provide additional commentary at this time as Dell does not discuss the details of any partnerships.”
The deal between Alienware and Riot included all major League of Legends competitions, including the North American League Championship Series, the League European Championship and more. The partnership was originally set to expire in January 2022.
