MOBILE GAMES SCROLL: ‘FINAL FANTASY’ CREATOR RETURNS WITH “DIORAMA ADVENTURE RPG” ‘FANTASIAN’

Mobile Games Scroll is a curated weekly roundup of the hottest news from gaming-on-the-go.

Described as a “diorama adventure RPG,” Fantasian is an upcoming mobile game featuring over 150 real-world dioramas that were digitally imported into the game. Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi is developing the game through his studio Mistwalker. Fantasian will launch exclusively on Apple Arcade sometime in 2021.

Like your typical JRPG, walking through the world will throw you into random encounter battles with enemies. Fantasian differs in that it allows you to toggle an option that automatically sends enemies you’d normally fight to another dimension. Once these enemies get piled into this separate world, you can hop in and fight them all at once instead of individually.

Here’s what else is happening in the world of mobile games.

Genshin Impact Continues Chart Dominance

A new report from Sensor Tower reveals the mobile version of Genshin Impact has generated nearly $874 million since it launched in September. Over that same time frame, only Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile surpassed that number with $1.2 billion and $1.1 billion earned respectively. Pokemon GO comes in fourth place with $651 million and Roblox follows with $579 million.

New Mega-Evolved Pokémon are also set to release and monsters like Foongus, Tangela, Miltank, Ducklett and Ponyta will appear more frequently for those in the Northern Hemisphere. Players in the Southern Hemisphere can expect monsters like Paras, Yanma, Shelmet, Vulpix and Zigzagoon.

Jetpack Joyride 2 Soars Onto Phones

Developer Halfbrick Studios is bringing the series back after a 10 year gap since the original released back in Sept. 2011. The endless runner sees main character Barry sprinting and flying through fast moving side-scrolling levels as players tap to use his jetpack and avoid obstacles. A soft launch in Australia, New Zealand and Canada started this week and it has not been said when the rest of the world will get a chance to download the sequel.

At the end of last year, Halfbrick Games released Fruit Ninja 2 after nearly a decade since the original’s release.
