‘FINAL FANTASY VII’ TO LAUNCH DUO MOBILE SPINOFFS
Shortly after the reveal of the Final Fantasy VII Remake PlayStation 5 upgrade during Thursday’s State of Play presentation, two additional mobile games set in the same universe were revealed. Announced through the game’s official Twitter account, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier and Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis are currently slated to release worldwide in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is set thirty years before the events of Final Fantasy VII where players take control of SOLDIER candidates created by Shinra. Official details are scarce, but the mobile Battle Royale game appears to give you abilities similar to those found in the original game as you fight other players in an attempt to be the last person or squad standing. Some form of boss fighting also seems to be included. The First Soldier will release worldwide on iOS and Android in 2021.
Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is an episodic single-player mobile title that covers the entire Final Fantasy VII timeline. Featuring an art style reminiscent of the original game’s PlayStation 1 graphical style, the chapter-based story will feature events from other Final Fantasy VII spin-offs and compilation titles like Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus. Ever Crisis will release worldwide on iOS and Android sometime in 2022.
Additionally, the Final Fantasy VII Remake soundtrack will be available on online music subscription services like Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music Unlimited starting Feb. 26.
A recent fiscal report noted Final Fantasy VII Remake as a contributing factor to Square Enix’s boost in net sales. Last December, the Final Fantasy VII villain Sephiroth was released as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
