PLAYSTATION BOSS JIM RYAN CONFIRMS NEW PS VR HEADSET FOR PS5
PlayStation president and CEO Jim Ryan revealed a number of new initiatives forcing the video game company in an interview with GQ UK this week, including the confirmation of a brand new PlayStation VR headset for the PlayStation 5.
The new headset, elaborated on by a corresponding PlayStation Blog post, will feature a single cord setup, improved tracking and input, and a new controller “which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics.” The headset will not be launching in 2021, according to the blog post.
Gran Turismo 7 has also been delayed out of this year, according to a statement from PlayStation in response to a question from GQ about the game’s status.
“GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022,” the statement read. “With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”
The GQ article also confirms that more PlayStation exclusives will be released on PC in 2021, beginning with Days Gone in the spring. Ryan commented on the company’s change of approach regarding PC development, citing an “opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience” and the level to which the “ease of making [PlayStation IP] available to non-console owners has grown” as reasons behind the decision.
