‘POKEMON GO’ UPDATE ADDS GENERATION 6 MONSTERS, INCREASES LEVEL CAP

Over a dozen brand new monsters from the Kalos region make their debut in an update that also adds themed seasons to the mobile game.

Pokemon GO is set to usher in a new update which will introduce the next generation of monsters into the mobile app. The Go Beyond update will also allow players to surpass level 40 for the first time since the game launched in July 2016

Starting on Dec. 2, over a dozen sixth generation Pokemon will be made available, with Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, Bunnelby, Fletchling and Litleo appearing in the wild for the first time. Klefki, a region exclusive Pokemon for France, will also appear.

The same week will also see the introduction of Seasons, a new type of event that spans a three month period and reflects both the season of the real world and follows the theme or story presented within the game. Depending on the current Season, certain Pokemon in the wild, in eggs and in raids will appear more frequently or rarely. Pokemon appearances will also vary based on which hemisphere players are located in. The Season of Celebration kicks off on Dec. 1 and will focus on Pokemon that first appeared in the Kalos region.

Go Battle League will also receive a few noteworthy changes. Ranks will expand from 10 to 24 and the top four ranks will feature new names and badges. Battle seasons in GO Battle League will shift to coincide with the newly-introduced Season with rewards tying in with the theme.

For the first time since launch, players will now be able to increase their trainer profiles past the current level cap of 40. While players will still require XP to level up, each level past 40 will require the completion of new tasks and challenges. These include hatching dozens of eggs, winning many raid battles and collecting new platinum medals and badges.

In addition, players who wish to increase the CP value of a Pokemon past level 40 will need to find Candy XL. These can be found by combining regular Pokemon candy or through participation in upcoming events. Trainers can now level up to 50.

Players who reach level 40 before the end of 2020 will earn an exclusive title and timed research which will earn them an exclusive Gyarados Hat for their avatar. A new double catch XP event will go live on Thursday and run until Jan. 1 to help players reach this milestone.
